Little Cupcake Bakeshop - 30 Prince St, New York |
I love to bake and New York is a great place to get inspiration! The city is filled with delicious treats and they are not afraid to get creative with their flavours.
Some of the best cakes and frostings I have made come from the Magnolia Bakery recipe book I purchased back in 2012, when I was in New York on holiday.
My Mum is a huge fan of eating cakes also, so when she came to visit me in NYC she did a bit of a cake tour and naturally I joined in where I could.
It was a tough job narrowing it down but here are our top picks along with our recommended cupcake flavour!
Molly's Cupcakes
Shayne's must try: Salted Caramel Butterscotch
A soft vanilla cake, filled with a gooey butterscotch caramel pudding centre and topped with salted vanilla buttercream frosting along with a drizzle of caramel.
Molly's is located at:
228 Bleeker Street
New York, New York
Butter Lane Cupcakes
Must try: Strawberry on Vanilla
Both my Mum and I, along with my Aunty Debbie and Ed taste tested a number of these scrumptious cakes but I think we all came to the unanimous decision that the strawberry on vanilla was the best with the sea salt chocolate in a close second. What made this strawberry cupcake stand out from others we have tried, was the real strawberry tasting frosting. It tasted as though they had mixed real puree'd strawberries into it, and maybe they had?!
Butter Lane also offers cupcake baking classes.
Butter Lane Cupcakes is located at:
123 East 7th Street
New York, New York
Sweet Haus
Must try: Neapolitan Cupcake
My Mum and I shared the neapolitan and the double lemon cake at Sweet Haus. We almost picked a different flavour over the neapolitan but we are glad we didn't as it was our favourite. Just like the ice cream, the cake tasted of a mix of vanilla, choc and strawberry and was topped with sweet strawberry frosting. I also highly recommend the iced mint tea to go with your cupcake.
Sweet Haus is located at:
135 Metropolitan Avenue
Brooklyn, New York
Magnolia Bakery
Becky's must try: Confetti Cupcake
The confetti cupcake is a simple cake but delicious all the same. It is a basic vanilla cake, filled with Magnolia's confetti sprinkles and topped with a mouthwatering vanilla buttercream frosting.

Becky's must try: Pumpkin Spice
Shayne's must try: Cotton Candy
These are the perfect guilt free cupcakes as they are only bite size. The flavours are seasonal so unfortunately I missed out on trying my Mum's must try choice but I'm sure my must try; the pumpkin spice is just as delicious. These mini cupcakes are a burst of flavour in your mouth!
